GRAMMAR QUESTION, Jan, 3rd, 2013

Correct the errors in the following sentence--it's based on something I heard our Prime Minister actually say on the radio:

I wasn’t understanding what he means when in a speech he has given Mr Harper was saying the funding will help them suffering from mental illness and their family’s.

There are many possible ways to correct this sentence--lots of bonus points for everyone!

PHILIPPE: That's a great start; now think about who "he" refers to and the order of the ideas here;-)
HELEN:Good--you realized the fundamental problem here:-)
AYGUL:On the right track--think about spelling and who is suffering from what.
ALEXIS:You have the right idea, but you need to take a look at the punctuation here and why you have written this as two sentences;-)

YADIRINY:That's a good start--now I want you to think about a word you need to omit and figure out who is suffering from what;-)
LISA:You're almost there--you need only think about who is suffering and from what;-)

ELENA:You have made a good start. Now think about capitalization, pronoun usage, and who is suffering from what;-)
YADIRINY:You omitted the word correctly, but the other, underlying problem remains:-(
JEFFREY: That's very close--you need to think about who is suffering from what;-)
