Phrase: The snow fell lightly from the sky, covering the ground.
Dependent Clause: The snow fell lightly from the sky, which covered the ground.
Independent Clause: While I was driving home the snow fell lightly from the sky.
Phrase: That night the snow fell lightly from the sky. DC: In the forest, the snow fell lightly from the sky. IC: The picture was taken at the perfect moment; the snow fell lightly from the sky.
Doris: Your second sentence suggests that the sky covered the ground, and your third sentence uses a dependent clause.
Amanda: Your first sentence needs a comma after "That night". Your second sentence uses a prepositional phrase rather than a clause. And try to avoid using a semi-colon when you are combining your sentences.
Aman: Your first sentence uses an independent clause (just like your third sentence). Your second sentence uses a phrase (and the meaning seems a little odd).
